    Description

Very funny letters and rather important. The writer, Henry Augustus Wright, was an author and accomplished Naval Captain. He served on the USS Independence in the Mexican war and stayed with the Union despite being a VA native. He was ordered to destroy the Grosport Naval Yard in VA which I assumed he did vs. giving it to the Confederacy.
In the first letter he is writing to fellow Captain and Medal of Honor Winner Edward Wright and thanking him for the French girls he sent him. He seems to be also asking for books to read and mentions his literary cravings. In the other letter he is asking a Professor Bache a lifer Naval Surgeon and grandson of Benjamin Franklin, for some charts of Charleston Harbor. Bache retired at the rank of Commodore.
