Description
This is an original patriotic envelope printed for Union sympathizers during the Civil War. It pictures Union cats blockading the shipping of Southern bales of cotton and killing Confederate rats. There is a US flag flying and it is captioned "I Wonder if the Coast is Clear?" being said by one rat to another as tall masted ships are on the horizon. The rats are labeled "Prizes." The envelope was copyrighted by the printer "Berlin and Jones" of New York. It is 5 & 1/2" by 3 & 1/8" and in very good undamaged condition.
