CIVIL WAR FIREMEN MEETING WITH LINCOLN LETTER WASHINGTON

Description

In 1862 the Union Fire Brigade  was the only professional Fire Company in the  City of Washington and  the & only Steam Brigade at the tragic Smithsonian Institute fire of January, 1865. An Original April 10, 1866 letter from Chief Engineer William Dicksen, with  "US Steam Fire Brigade" logo, "Chief Engineer's Office, Pennsylvania Avenue, below 19th Street Washington, DC",  to Fire Captain James Byrnes, re their plans to meet with the President,  currently "devoting his time national matters; the House has introduced a resolution of thanks to the Company", also mentions fireman Johnny Orr who was accidentally shot at the Arsenal Fire Friday. 1p 8 x 11 ink. A rare original relic of the US Fire Brigade. Minor edge wear, age stains, Overall VG.
