An original letter from Thomas Logan Tullock at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Dec 31, 1864 to  Brother Freemason, on behalf of a Portsmouth father, Robert Shillaber Esq,  seeking his aid in  obtaining the furlough of his son,  cavalryman Robert Shillaber Jr  lying sick at Frederick, Maryland, hoping he can be transferred to a Manchester, NH hospital. Thomas Tullock was a prominent Mason and later NH Governor. The soldier, Robert Shillaber served 4 years w the 1st RI & 1st NH Cavalry. Comes w service info. 1p Edge w glue stain, overall VG. The Shillabers were a notable Portsmouth family.
