A SIGNED HANDWRITTEN LETTER BY ADMIRAL DAVID DIXON PORTERDATED NOVEMBER 4, 1862 TO CAPTAIN HENRY WALKE
1 page letter signed from the US Navy staging point on the upper Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois during the early days of the Siege of Vicksburg. Addressed to Captain Henry Walke who commanded the USS Carondelet stationed at Helena, Arkansas.
"You will please detail one vessel to convoy steamers from Helena to Memphis and protect them while they are picking up cotton and tobacco on the way up. I enclose order relating to convoy it is a great object to get the cotton just now."
