Absolutely an original item, not a reproduction.  This item is a "cover" in philatelic terms--a Confederate States of America item of "Postal History" to be more precise.
There is no letter present - you are only purchasing the postal portion.
An important Confederate Cover, pictured on Page 79 of Conrad Bush's Fancy and Unusual Cancel Book.
A CSA #4 on a pinkish cover with part of the rear flap missing and repaired from a rough opening, generally-accepted to be a Lynchburg, Virginia Overpaid Drop usage.  The stamp is tied by a circle "PAID 1" made out of Prewar "PAID 3."  Addressed to "Miss Queen Clark, Care of C. C. Clark, Lynchburg, Va."
