Description
The disastrous Union Army Campaign of January, 1863 was stopped by a blizzard and axle deep mud roads, causing near mutiny of the Army of the Potomac & the relief of it's Commander General Ambrose Burnside by Lincoln. An original manuscript General Order issued at Fairfax Court House, Virginia, HQ 12th Army Corps, Jan 12, 1863 by General Henry W Slocum- all cavalry & ambulance horses are to be sheltered, fed, groomed & rested in preparation for the Campaign w details for shelter & food, etc. An original "retained copy", 2pp 8 x 12" ink, signed by Captain HB Scott as AAG, just before the start of Burnside's Campaign, remembered by his men as the infamous "Mud March" . Comes w service info- Lt Colonel Henry B Scott was a noted Framingham, Mass veteran, 2nd Mass Infantry. Edge wear, Overall VG.General Orders were issued to communicate commands and information to the Army. Each order, issued in writing by a command, was then printed for distribution to each unit, either at an army department headquarter or by commanders at local headquarters in the field on portable printing presses operated by soldiers. The orders were then issued to regiments, to be read aloud to the troops.
