Hiram Weller, Private, Company "E", 2nd New York Provisional Cavalry, letter home to his sister, 1 page, 26 June 1865, from "Camp of 2d Provisional N.Y. Cav. Near Clouds Mills Va." Weller writes a brief letter about his whereabouts, being consolidated with the 15th Cavalry, the new designation of his regiment, in part (some spelling corrected):"
We are to leave for Davisville Kentucky either tonight or tomorrow. We have been consolidated with the 15th N.Y. Cav. and you will see our name at the head of this letter. I am not among the supernumeraries. Finch and Campbell and Taylor are to go and all the rest are to remain.
Address Sergt. H. Weller. Troop E 6 N.Y. Cav. Washington, D.C. until further orders.

Hiram Weller enlisted into the 6th NY Cavalry in October of 1861, he was captured at Spottsylvania Court House on 30 April 1863 when the 6th was in Stoneman's Cavalry during the Chancellorsville Campaign, was soon paroled at City Point and rejoined his regiment. He re-enlisted at the end of 1863, was promoted to Sergeant and in June 1865 he joined the 2nd New York Provisional Cavalry which existed briefly at the end of the war with the consolidation of the 6th and 15th Cavalry regiments. Weller served for four years.
