IOWA CIVIL WAR GENERAL NATHANIEL BAKER LETTER

Description

In 1864 the Northern Iowa Border Counties requested arms to form militia units to defend the settlers against the Sioux after the Minnesota Indian Uprisings. An original letter from Sh Judd at Brownville, Iowa to Iowa Adjutant General NB Baker requesting 40 stands of arms & equipment & tactics manuals w details governing formation of the militia for local defense. 1p 8 x 6" ink. The Undated letter is from Brownville Pioneer SH Judd, and has an added note reply from General Baker as AG. Edge wear, age stains, Overall VG. Brownsville was a pioneer settlement on the Little Cedar River,  Mitchell County. Comes w bio info for General Baker,  a noted Iowa Civil War figure.
